Stockport Flats

From U.S. Route 20 in Rensselaer, about 1 mile east of the Dunn Memorial Bridge, turn south on NY Route 9J. Travel 22.3 miles on Route 9J, then continue south 1.1 miles on U.S. Route 9. Turn west onto County Road 22/Station Road, follow it to the end.

Lewis A. Swyer Preserve

From U.S. Route 20 in Rensselaer, about 1 mile east of the Dunn Memorial Bridge, turn south on NY Route 9J. Travel 15.4 miles south on Route 9J. Parking area for Swyer Preserve is on Route 9J, about 1/4 mile from where the boardwalk trail enters the woods.

Schodack Island State Park

From US Route 20 in Rensselaer, about 1 mile east of the Dunn Memorial Bridge, turn south on NY Route 9J. Travel about 8.1 miles south to park entrance on the west side of Route 9J.

Collins Lake

An urban park and lake near the Mohawk River.

From Schenectady, take SR 5 west crossing the Mohawk River via the Western Gateway Bridge towards Scotia. At the north end of the bridge turn right onto Schonowe Ave. Turn left onto Kiwanis to view from the south shore. To view from the east shore, continue on Schonowe - turn left on Washington Ave - drive north to the Quinlan Park entrance.

Vischer Ferry Nature and Historic Preserve

Take Exit 8 off the Adirondack Northway (I-87. Travel west on Crescent Rd for about 2 miles. Turn left onto Van Vranken Rd to its end at about 1 mile. The main parking area is directly ahead on Riverview Rd.

Saratoga National Historical Park

Saratoga National Historical Park

Take Exit 12 from the Adirondack Northway (I-87)/ Travel east on SR 67 (crossing route 9) onto Dunning Rd. Take Dunning to the end to a "T" intersection at Saratoga Lake. Turn right onto SR 9P. Turn right on SR 423 for about 4 miles. Turn left onto SR 32 for about 2 miles to the park entrance on the right.

Peebles Island State Park

Peebles Island State Park

From Albany, take I-787 north (becomes SR 787 in Cohoes) to SR 470 (Ontario St) in Cohoes - turn right (east) on SR 470 - cross two small bridges and continue for about 0.5 mile - turn left onto Delaware Ave just before the Hudson River bridge - follow Delaware Ave north for about a mile to the parking area. Fee charged April to October.

Cherry Plain State Park

Cherry Plain State Park and Capital District Wildlife Management Area

From Albany take I-90 east to exit 8. Then take SR 43 east about 10.5 miles to the intersection with SR 66. Proceed straight ahead on CR 42 (Taberton Rd). After about 8.5 miles turn right on Dutch Church Rd and then take an immediate right onto Miller Rd. Follow Miller Rd to the park.

The Capital District WMA basically surrounds the park and provides an extensive birding area.

Huyck Preserve

Edmund Niles Huyck Preserve
In Albany take Exit 4 from I-90 (SR-85) and drive southwest on SR-85 for about 26 miles until it ends in the hamlet of Rensselaerville. The main office of the Huyck Preserve is right there.

Ann Lee Pond

Ann Lee Pond is just south of the terminal at Albany International Airport.

From exit 4 of the Adirondack Northway (I-87) - follow SR 155 west - bear left past the airport entrance - then turn left on Heritage Lane. Drive about 0.4 mile and park in the second lot for Ann Lee Pond.
