Program - Birding in New Mexico

  • 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM
  • Zoom only

Speaker: Bernie Grossman

Topic: Birding in New Mexico

Commercial bird tours started up again after COVID in late 2021, and we were able to travel to New Mexico with Field Guides, Inc. in January, 2022. The tour covered central New Mexico along I-25 from south of Socorro to the Jemez Mountains above Los Alamos. We experienced the morning goose flight at Bosque del Apache NWR as well as huge numbers of Sandhill Cranes. Many other typical western species were also seen along with spectacular scenery. Good New Mexican food was enjoyed.

Chris and Bernie Grossman lived in New York's Capital District for 42 years and were active in the local birding scene during that time. They moved to Tallahassee, FL, almost six years ago in a futile attempt to live near one of their sons. They will be moving (before the border is closed) to southern Maryland in early summer to be near the other son.

They have held many positions in HMBC and have presented many talks about their extensive travels around the world. Most recently they were in The Netherlands in late 2022 for birds and art. The next trip is in May to Britain and Scotland to bird.
